I started the education career as an elementary school teacher in Japan after I earned M. Ed. in 1992. I emphasized music education there because of the artistic and creative quality, which enriches children’s lives.
After moving to the U.S., I started serious voice training under Dr. Paul Setziol and Ms. Billie Bandermann in De Anza College in 2011. Dr. Ilan Glasman leaded and tutored me on the choral conducting. After finished college classes, I remained there as a teaching assistant for Beginning Singing classes and choirs for six years. I continues getting private voice coaching under some great singers in the Bay Area, and Ms. Nicole Cooper has been my coach since 2015.
My first public performance, not related to the school, was in 2013, as a low alto in Resounding Achord, a strong community choir serving to build community through music. In 2016, I was appointed as the first artistic director of Japanese children choir, Bay Area Junior Chorus, and worked with the group till the 2018-2019 season. I, also, has been leading and performing as a soprano in jazz and contemporary pop a cappella ensemble, Me You We, from 2016 to 2019. Now I’m teaching a couple of young singers’ groups.
In the voice coaching, I focuse on developing healthy and beautiful singing style and decent musicianship as well as the better discipline. Learning singing is also the process to train controlling our body and mind.
I take beginning to intermediate students of all ages, but the most experienced field is teaching young singes. Each lesson is customized to match each student’s needs. All students will start with classical to cross over style as a basic, and I help each singer finds their voice. All my students are encouraged to perform once a while to share their music and achievement. ABRSM exams and competitions are also the good mile stones. I will provide my best support toward the challenge. However, I believes that singing is an art of life, and sharing or performing for the love of music is the best reason to learn it.
I also organized and ran a holiday choir festivals incorporating with Union Church of Cupertino, since 2016. There, we shared the songs from the multi cultural background, and enjoyed the beautiful moment of harmony. Sharing live vocal harmony with the community neighbors has been one of my biggest projects and looking for expansion.
